JAI: AI Chat and Journal · Last updated 19 June 2026
JAI ("JAI", "we", "us") is a private journaling companion. This policy explains what we
collect, why, who processes it on our behalf, and the control you have over your data.
We've tried to keep it plain. Questions: support@jaijournal.app.
What we collect
- Account — your email address and a user identifier, provided when you
sign in with Google or Apple. We never receive your Google/Apple password.
- Profile details you share — during onboarding you can tell us your first
name, age range, gender (optional — "prefer not to say" is always available), what fills
your days, and how you've been feeling. We use these only to personalize your reflections,
never to advertise to you.
- Your journal content — the messages you write to JAI, and the
assistant's replies.
- Reflections derived from your content — to power your daily reflection,
dashboard and patterns, we generate structured notes about your entries (for example,
emotional tone, sleep/exercise mentions, events and goals). These are derived from what
you write and are tied to your account.
- Usage analytics — anonymous-leaning product events (screens viewed,
features used) to understand and improve the app.
- Purchases — subscription status and transaction identifiers, so we can
unlock paid features. Card details are handled by Apple, never by us.
- Device push token — if you enable notifications, so we can send your
morning reflection.
How we use it
- To provide the service — hold the conversation, generate your morning reflection, and
show your dashboard and patterns.
- To send the notifications you opt into.
- To operate, secure, debug and improve the app.
We do not sell your data, and we do not use your journal
content to advertise to you.
Who processes your data (subprocessors)
We use a small set of trusted providers strictly to run the service:
- Supabase — authentication and database (your account and content).
- Render — application hosting.
- OpenAI — processes the text of your messages to generate replies and
reflections. Your content is sent to OpenAI's API to produce those responses.
- Neo4j Aura — stores the per-user knowledge graph derived from your
entries.
- PostHog — product analytics.
- RevenueCat and Apple — subscription management and
payments.
- Expo — delivery of push notifications.
Each processes data only to provide its function to us, under its own terms.
Retention & deletion
We keep your data while your account exists. You can permanently delete your
account at any time from within the app (left menu → account). Deletion erases your
messages, the derived reflections, your knowledge graph, and your sign-in identity. This is
immediate and irreversible. Backups, where they exist, age out on a rolling basis.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit. Access is scoped per user, and row-level security is enabled
on our database so one account can never read another's data.
Children
JAI is not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Your rights
You can access, export, correct or delete your data. The fastest route is in-app deletion;
for anything else, email support@jaijournal.app.
Changes
We'll update this page and the "last updated" date when this policy changes.
JAI is a journaling companion for reflection and self-understanding. It is not
a medical or mental-health service and is not a substitute for professional care.
